Colégio Sagrado Coração de Jesus (primary school) (CSCJ)
A private school, founded in 1995 by Juvenilde Frutoso Alves and 6 of her colleagues when the public school, where they were connected, was closed unexpectedly. Today, without state subsidy, they manage to grant good education to +- 300 children that are normally excluded due to a lack of money. In 2005, they got their first computer installation. The old typewriter and mimeograph have been replaced by a PC. This simplifies administrative work on the one hand and raises the attractiveness of the courses on the other hand. An internet connection has been provided for the PC. The schoolbuilding was partially refurbished in 2006.
With the sponsorship of MÖBIUS we succeeded to upgrade the program of the school with
an initiation program in IT. Most of the private schools offer this program as part of the 3
last years of the primary school. In 2008 we installed a computer classroom with six
computers and as of 2009 they have offered this program to their students, including a
dedicated and specialized teacher. All costs for this program (Investments and annual
recurring costs) are covered by Amigos de Picos.
Colégio de Sao Lucas (secondary school)
A private school, founded with the intention to offer high quality education to an open community with special attention for personal coaching to succeed in the Vestibular, the entrance exam to University. This school has already various sponsorships and is doing quite well. Therefore we do not offer them financial help, but we maintain a good relationship because they are very instrumental to leverage our scholarships.
Both actions –of course- take place with the support of several volunteers in the field, more specific with the help of the headmistresses of above mentioned schools.
